How much deposit can a landlord ask for in Spain?
For a long-term home the legal deposit (fianza) in Spain is one month's rent; a landlord may ask for an extra guarantee on top, but the LAU caps that additional guarantee at two months' rent — anything more is not legally enforceable.
So the most you should normally hand over up front is one month's deposit plus, at most, a two-month additional guarantee, alongside the first month's rent.
Being asked for more is a red flag worth questioning before you sign.
