What is the minimum rental contract term in Spain?

A long-term rental in Spain has a legal minimum the tenant is entitled to stay: five years when the landlord is an individual, seven when it's a company — the tenant can leave earlier (after six months, with notice), but the landlord is bound for the full term.

Even if the written contract says one year, it automatically renews up to the five- or seven-year minimum at the tenant's option.

This is one of the strongest protections in the LAU — your tenure is far more secure than the contract length alone suggests.
