What does a gestoría do when buying in Spain?

A gestoría is an administrative agency that handles the paperwork around a purchase — filing the transfer taxes, registering the deed, arranging utility transfers and sometimes the NIE — for a modest fee.

A gestoría handles process and forms; it is not a substitute for an independent lawyer who checks the legal risks. Many purchases use both.

Its fee is one of the small line items in the ~10–13% of costs on top of the price.
